Job Search Texas

Hello WSO,

I was wondering if the WSO community could help guide me in my job search in Texas. I graduated from Texas Tech with a BBA in Energy Management and went to work directly out of school as a landman. Mostly, title/heirship research but I've done some buying/leasing and also helped with some small JOA deals. Have been working as a landman for about 1.5 years.

Currently I have a pretty nice gig that allows me to work from home while I'm getting my MSF at UT Dallas. Does anybody have any advice on how to hedge my background in my career search? I know obviously I have some oil & gas experience but would that really help me in a financial job search?

Additionally, before anybody asks, I'm kind of unsure of what financial career path I want to take at first I wanted to go into PWM but I kind of learned my lesson from undergrad not to set the sights so narrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Honestly, I want to get into something more analytical. For me I can do the wheel & deal stuff but it really drains me so that's why I started to have my doubts about PWM.

I don't want to rule O&G out completely but I was wonder what other opportunities there might be in Texas. One of my professors worked in equity research for a mutual fund company (Dallas) and it sounded really intriguing/ something I would be good at.

I'm also situated in Texas, Houston specifically. Are you in the latter part of your MSF? For equity research, it's a super coveted position, you would def want to get some kind of internship to have a great chance of becoming full time. If you can't get a full time, you'll need to make your own models and try and publish them in the internet whether it be in seeking alpha or another financial blog. You do have prior upstream experience which does help, but you must network your ass off for the position you want
