Job Title
Petty but important issue. I am being brought in by a former global company, as a contractor, to take over someone's role in 3-6 months based in Asia. I'll report to this guy in the interim until he hands the role over to me and then subsequently will report to the Marketing Director. This guy's title is Marketing Strategy Manager whilst they've given me a contractor title of Assistant Marketing Strategy Manager despite me being the same level as him. I know they can't give me the same title as I am not replacing him yet however I am as senior as him and Assistant sounds slightly junior as Assistant Brand Managers (and Assistants in other teams) are junior. I will voice my dissatisfaction at the tile and say I understand this is to help with the transition however can I recommend a better title? Senior Assistant Marketing Strategy Manager / Senior Marketing Strategy Analyst / Marketing Strategy (Contractor)...?
Yeah, it definitely sounds like you're getting knocked down a bit.
Why can’t you list yourself as Marketing Strategy Manager on your resume or LinkedIn? Just make sure you include underneath it that it’s a contract assignment. Have you seen some of the banking profiles? You got all these Associates and VPs; some won’t even mention their department or group. I think you’ll be okay.
