Job Title Dilemma
Hello all,
I recently started a new job a few months ago at a large international bank and I am uncertain as to what I should list on my LinkedIn/Resume. The original role I was hired for was "Corporate Banking - Analyst". However, the job tasks resemble that of a Credit Analyst (I do not do any RM, just analysis). To add, under the company's organization chart I am under the Credit Risk division and not Corporate Banking; I'm also just listed as "Analyst".
I have looked at my team's Analyst/Associate LinkedIn profiles, and they all list it differently from "Credit Analyst", "Role, Corporate Banking Credit" to "Analyst - Corporate & Investment Banking". In general, I am trying not to misrepresent my role, however maintain some attractiveness for future roles, with IB being the end goal. As well, it is under my understanding from previous posts that labelling myself as a "Credit Analyst" is a one-way street to pigeonholing myself as a credit guy.
I just wanted to wager some opinions into what I should display on LinkedIn/Resume to not misrepresent myself, but also maintain flexibility for future opportunities.
Here is a quick overview of some of the job tasks:
- Lead the underwriting effort of the IG portfolio under the supervision of a Senior Credit Officer
- Review and update, or write new credit memos on current/prospective clients; ensure said clients remain under covenant terms
- Establish internal rating for transactions and advise on appropriate exposure level
- Perform credit analysis and project operating performance and capital structure; Perform financial modelling on a prospective deal to assess company performance post close
Any insight helps! Thanks!
Putting "Analyst, Corporate Banking" could seem misleading as you're on the Analysis/Credit side and not the RM side so "Analyst, Corporate Banking Credit" may be the safer move. That being said, the first option is fairly broad and could be developed in the resume points.
I'd personally look how direct senior managers are putting it on their resume. Just my two cents
I had a buddy of mine who had a similar dilemma. By any chance is this at a German bank?
No, it's an Asian bank. Any insight into what he did?
Looking at Corporate Banking postings, some have similar job descriptions as mine while others have the added Relationship Management aspect (w/ making pitchbooks).
You are a Credit Analyst? I dont understand the confusion here.
In short, the role title I was hired for was "Corporate Banking - Analyst", when in reality, I am more of a Credit Analyst; I didn't know which title to follow.
I ended up putting "Analyst, Corporate Banking Credit". Hopefully, that clears up any confusion to recruiters/hiring managers that I work on the Credit Side for the bank.
Since it sounds like you are only doing internal credit work I would suggest Corporate Banking Credit Analyst.
If you were also working on presentations and pitches I wouldn't hesitate to put Corporate Banking Analyst.
