Joining megafund out of undergrad - then what?

What do analysts who join BX/ Silver Lake/ Cerberus/ Elevation out of college do once they complete their two or three year contract? Do they get promoted to a pre-MBA associate position at the fund or do they jump to another megafund vis a vis a headhunter?

For BX it's a 3 year program, with compensation the first two years similar to banking and a jump in the third year, so overall it's comparable to 2+2. You can stay on past 3 years but I don't think any of their analysts do. Hard to say for the other megafunds as the programs are still very new.

I have no information that would be valuable to you but wanted to say that you are in a really really good position right now. top notch SA offer locked up and already talking to people at mega funds

kkr and apollo do not hire undergrads

This is correct, but TPG has started, so you can add them to your list. Yes - assuming youre from a target where you are protected by OCR from having to accept your offer early, you should have a deadline to accept that is late enough where you'll have more than enough to interview whereever you want.

SA not through OCR so not really protected. And i've heard that most SAs with return offers accept before September. Don't want to burn bridges especially at such a top tier banking group.

If I end up getting an offer from my banking group this summer, does it make more sense to stick to sell-side advisory for 2 years then PE or go to a decent fund (cerberus/warburg caliber)? Eventual goal is megafund.

you would be crazy to turn down warburg if you want to have a career in private equity
