Know a guy who worked for Kelso as a pre-MBA. Really don't know much other than that he got worked to the bone and made a ton of money. Not surprising given the large AUM for a relatively small team. He ended up at H/S for his MBA.
CompBanker
thanks everyone, compbanker what do you mean worked to the bone? banking hours?
Precisely. Banking hours.
CompBanker
I only have one data point to go on, but this was his exact experience as well.
define "a ton of money" - competitive with MFs?
Jordan guys are mostly notre dame grads so hopefully you have some ties there or could find some in a hurry if looking to apply. Well-regarded at least in middle market circles and for good reason. Can't say much about Kelso though. (sidebar, I obviously don't work for either in case you were wondering)
Kelso = top notch MM PE shop
Jordan, don't personally know anyone who has worked there but I have worked with them in my banking days... fairly well respected in their universe.
Kelso pays a ton and has private jets. No clue about hours
Just wanted add that the late Louis Kelso was a true larger than life figure who advocated for employees to obtain ownership and share upsides of the firms they worked for, such as through Employee Stock Ownership Plans that he invented and popularized, hence effectively turning workers into owners and partners of the company.
Kelso the PE firm also has a JV with Blackrock, structured as a BDC, that provides financing to MM companies.
