JPM CIB Country Risk

Hello all,

This is my first time posting, so I apologize if this is the wrong forum. I'm a little late in wanting to go the "finance" route being a 26 year old 5th year PhD student, but I have always had an interest, with past coursework in international econ, financial history, macro, etc., as well as an understanding of various financial concepts (I was part of my undergrad's investment club, did a lot of investing/investment research on my own, and have done some stuff in political economy). Anyway, I am finishing up my international relations PhD, and have applied to a few internships for Summer 2019. I've taken a real interesting in Risk Management mostly because I've seen positions like those at JPM in the area of "country risk," and I was wondering exactly what this area of risk management is all about (either at the intern level, or at the analyst/associate level). Specifically:

What is a typical day like? How do the hours compare to other areas of risk management? What is the pay like compared to other areas in risk management? Will my education help me get a job (and I guess experience if you could teaching at a college for three years as an adjunct professor and appearing on smaller UK-based news broadcast networks for political commentary once in a while)? And are there any jobs in country risk or political risk that I can apply for with a reasonable change of getting them, or is an internship basically the only route for me to break into country/political risk management? Am I fooling myself to think that the work would be interesting for someone like me who has mostly done political science research? Also, if anyone has any insight specifically into the JPM Country Risk summer internship program specifically, or what country risk analysts do exactly at JPM, that would be great.

I probably have a few more questions, but if anyone could provide some answers to these, I'd really appreciate it.
