Jump ship in summer?
Fellow Monkeys:
I'm interning at a mid-level BB IBD this summer.
Due to COVID and WFH, deal flow has been pretty bad and interns are not allowed to be involved in live deals, so, at least for a few fellow interns I know, we are having BB coming up, an off-cycle internship end of this year, and it only recruits in ~6 schools including mine. Even though I do want a return offer from my current bank, I don't want to get nothing end of summer.
I am considering jumping ship and applying for the new opportunity. But the application is due in a few days when my current internship is just halfway through the summer.
If I do submit an application tomorrow, will bankers at the other bank be curious why I want to jump ship and just ask bankers at my bank, thereby jeopardizing my return? Or will they not care because the other bank is bigger and jumping ship is common in this way? The ultimate question should be, should I really consider jumping ship?
Appreciate any advice.

You should apply to the off-cycle internship. It's worth the risk. Wouldn't worry about bankers talking that much especially since it's not internal mobility. If it really gets out, you can say you wanted to keep accumulating experience during the school year before returning to your current bank / COVID made school semester plans change for you.
