Junior Broker to Asset Management, I Need Advice
I used to browse WSO all the time in college, so I figured I'd come back here for some advice. Let me explain my situation:
I've been out of school for ~ 1 year. I graduated with a B.S. in Economics from a state school. ~3.5 GPA. I didn't find out about the 'ideal' financial careers until my junior year of college and as a result never had time to land an internship. Fast forward to college graduation and shortly after I end up networking my way into a smallish broker/dealer. My job is to assist with financial planning, run reports, do excel work and data entry, sit in on client meetings to go over reports and take notes, etc... Basically I'm a junior broker.
Even before and when I got hired I knew I wanted to do investment banking/buy-side (the typical WSO kids dream), and decided I would just take this position and try to leave for greener pastures after a year because it's better than a non-financial job.
This brings me to now: I've been at my job for ~8 months and I've decided I want to break into Asset Management. Considering it's December I feel I need to start applying for jobs and networking heavy if it's not too late already. By the time summer roles around I will have been at my current job a little over 1 year and I feel it will be a good time to leave.
Does anyone have advice to offer me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
