^^^ slickrick42 - A rolex is nothing in comparison to it. Rolex is like the toyota camry of luxury watches. Patek is the bentley.

Your 1st comment didn't come across as such since this type of post ("is my watch too flashy") is quite common - and typically for watches even in the low $1000s range, not five figures. Most WSOers are college kids who may not have any particular knowledge about watches beyond very mainstream brands (re: Rolex).

Who gives a fuck. Patek's are pretty discrete watches. Breitlings or bell & Ross stand out because they are huge. No one will know what you have. With that said, you would be wise to not wear it to work because a watch that fine can and will get fucked up from analyst type abuse.

Yep. Pushing into a door the wrong way, digging around a drawer, or setting your hands down on your desk too hard are all easy ways to scratch that baby up. My watch ran me $1.2K and I'm paranoid as hell when I wear it.

Pretty much this. Probably better to save it for special occasions rather than wear it everyday. My dad takes his off at his desk and on the golf course so he doesn't unnecessarily mess it up. Thankfully I'm not in the market for 5-figure watches, so this is not a problem I've had to deal with.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

I'd recommend not wearing it at first. Let them get to know you awhile, long enough for you to develop a little bit of a reputation around the office, maybe a few months. This was you won't be known as the "rich kid with the patek who probably won't work hard because he can just fall back on daddy's money".

Work hard when you get there and don't talk about the watch, but maybe let one person know about how it was a meaningful present. That way if anybody's talking behind your back about the watch, they will inevitably learn how it was a present from your father, means a lot to you, blah blah. At least they will know your side of the story and they'll already respect you for being a good worker.

And the way your hands sit on the desk at work does bang up watches. With a Patek I'd honestly not want to subject it to that kind of wear. So maybe just wear it special days. I end up taking off my watch a lot because of the aforementioned typing position. You'd need to be sure to lock it in your drawer at all times you took it off.

Unless it's a 20 dollar swatch, wear it. Don't flaunt it. If a top guy notices, the situation might open a conversation that might benefit you. Learn everything you can about that watch.

One of the guy who runs a hedge fund and is in worth more than few $B only wear a 10 dollar watch.

Billionaire Li Kai Sheng wears a $50 timepiece and Sam Walton drove an old car, but I don't think you're either one of them.

The watch was a gift that he received from his father, and he shouldn't need hide it just because someone else might feel insecure. Yes, it could potentially put unnecessary attention on you, but so would a hot girlfriend. Who gives a flying F, enjoy it!

There's a story about a millionaire homeless in Montreal, so you should live outdoors ... fuck it

rock that fine watch, 95% of the ppl doesn't know the dif between a patek and a casio, and 99% doesn't care about your watch ... If you're lucky enough, you will meet some1 who enjoys watches and you 'll make a new friend, but having a nice watch won't make you lose any friends.

Please wear it. Most people can't tell the difference between a breitling or a fossil nevermind a PK. The brand has a reputation for being discreet for the ultimate connoisseur. It is the equivalent of driving an E39 M5 unless you knew what to look for you couldn't tell the difference b/w one and a regular 5 series.

Someone above me stated if someone does notice, it will most likely turn into a good conversation piece.

Enjoy with good health.

Like the title says, my old man just gave me his Patek Phillipe as a graduation present.

Is this too much to wear at the office? I'm 25 and I don't want to give off the wrong impression...

Rock the Patek. It excudes class.

Agree with Anthony. Patek and Vacheron are low-key and can't be distinguished from an analog Seiko from a distance. Enjoy your father's gift to you, keep it oiled and maintained over a 3-5 year interval, and pass it along to your son.

Below the 5-figure price mark, most brands are mass-market, machine-made stuff. You are paying mainly for marketing. PP and VC do not need to advertise too much, as they are not ebauche (most watches under 10K are ETA or Lemania movt under different labels) and the aficionados know it already.

Enjoy it! For reference I wear a Rolex at the moment and seemed to be fine throughout my internship and interviewing for graduate positions - it is a fairly subtle white gold date-just II.

Hoping to buy a Patek Calatrava in the next 12 months which I will be using it as my evening watch and wearing the Rolex day to day.

Don't make this a big deal. Nautilus (I assume not with leather strap and not in flashy yellow or rose gold) is perfect for day-to-day work. Durable and carry huge prestige. Only some bastard with fine taste can tell it's a PP.

Good for you, man

Most people you'll be dealing with won't even recognize it as PP, only a fellow watch enthusiast would immediately spot the defining features and at that point it's a bonding experience.

More is good, all is better

I wouldnt worry about it making the wrong impression, but i would not wear that regularly if i were you. a) its a PP. b) its a family heirloom of sorts c) its a PP.

id save it for special occasions- black tie events, weddings, etc
