Just got into PE but they want me to start in 10 days. (Quitting job)
I’m currently a management consultant and I really am burned out. I wanted a week break prior to working with private equity.
Would you guys quit abruptly? I don’t want to burn a bridge, but I need sleep and to prep.
Say your old job is 3 week notice period. Not like they’ll lie. Or just do 1 week at consulting firm. Not like they’re gonna fire you if you already put in your notice
There has been a lot of turn over at my consulting firm. (I guess I feel bad departing on almost no notice.)
I was considering working until the night before I begin my next position, but entering a new career path already burnt out sounds terrible.
I think it is important to mentally prepare for the new role and that can be hard if you are burned out.
I am not sure you owe the consulting firm anything beyond what your contract says.
On the relationship side, I imagine you have worked for them for multiple years around the clock and if you want a quicker exit then somehow you are the one that burns the bridge.
Just tell them how much CDD work you’ll be sending their way once you are at your new PE role.
Go tell your manager now that you're leaving, and are willing to help with transition but you need to start at your new firm ASAP. No one is going to hold you to serve out a notice period. Just work on passing stuff off this week, and maybe Monday and then bounce. Don’t feel bad, this happens all the time and you need to take care of yourself first
Thanks for the input man. It’s appreciated.
