Just landed a PE internship after being fired from a consulting firm for underperformance. How can I do well this time?

Hey monkeys,

Hope this post finds you well. I entered a mid-tier consulting firm out of undergrad where I did just about "ok", then jumped to a small strategy shop where I was let go after a year (give or take a few months) due to underperformance. I just landed a 4-6 week stint at a small PE shop started by one of the partners at my first firm, with the chance at a full time offer if I do well.

I've made a ton of mistakes in my past, but I'm determined to turn things around and start performing well. However, it's been a while since I've been in the workforce (took me several months to get back on my feet after being let go), and I clearly wasn't doing well before.

Can some of you who have succeeded as junior-level PE guys talk about some steps - both strategic and tactical - that you think allowed you to demonstrate value?

For example, strategic steps might include frameworks for sourcing/assessing potential deals, how to think about operational turnaround, how to interact with senior associates/partners. Examples of tactical steps might be to make sure to send an end-of-day email every day, or similar small detailed steps that add up to paint a picture of a contributing team member.

Really hoping to take the reins on my own career, but I definitely believe in leveraging existing knowledge - any tips or comments would be really valued and appreciated. Thank you in advance!
