Just moved up the ranks - a chimp is looking for any info.
Hi all,
Not quite sure how to structure this post - first time reaching out on these forms - but I'm basically looking for any and all advice, to establish connections at my future school, and basically where does one start in the search for career paths. Long story short, I'm a high school senior and just got off the waitlist from UChicago and I'll now be attending in 2022 with a gap year in-between. I jumped headfirst into the market since the day I turned 18; prepared with paper-trading for a couple of years, doing my required reading (the Intelligent Investor by the almighty Graham, Nudge by dickwad thiel, the World by Hass), and I've basically seen a good amount of "reality" by this point. Mass market manipulation by citadel and their payment for orderflow scheme, big boys get greedy too (a, you'll never win as a retail investor just bank on the spy for guaranteed tendies, etc. WHATEVER - don't care anymore, I'm over it. Anyways, super excited to go to a non-shit econ school and looking to make the absolute most of this opportunity. I'm gonna take a gap year between starting freshman year though, do cool cello and business stuff overseas, but I was wondering if there are any books you'd recommended for noobass highschool senior (going to try and create a 20 book list that I'll chug through this summer) relating to absolutely anything you'd recommend in the finance/buy-sell side world/about philosophy, if there are any important must-take opportunities that I should be aware of at UChicago (obv gonna join all the clubs yadayada), and if any current students or alumni of UChicago would be willing to reach out/psudo mentor an incoming freshman on how to get the most bang for his buck from this school and ultimately future career path. Thinking either private equity or bank (prob gonna try to get intern experience in both sides) - and I know I obv gotta secure that coveted summer analyst role junior year summer. Not really sure how to work this shit but looking for a guide to life lmao. Obviously, I know UChicago is a damn grind - good, that's why I applied - and I'm so fucking excited to actually have a decent career outlook.
Please reach out w book recs, general advice about UChicago, and any advice on how to work toward that golden goose of a summer analyst role.
Best,
