KCL vs Bath for IB?
I am currently applying to universities in the UK, I know that both these uni are semi-target my other 4 choices are targets so idts it matters that much but it would still be better to be on the safer end and choose the better University. So which among these 2 is better for IB placement?
You're REALLY splitting hairs here. I'd pick the unis for some other reason than placement but if you HAD to choose then KCL.
Assuming they are similar and if he was to decide solely on placement I’d go with KCL as being in the city would be more convenient for networking, going in for an interview, coffee, etc. Quite the trip from Baths to London. Completely guessing but KCL would have an environment that is more conducive to finance with clubs, people, culture as they are in the city. Anyway, these are OPs safety so just take KCL and don’t think about it too much since you have a fair chance at targets.
The unis are not that similar tbh and the thing is you really don't have to network if you're at a semi-target lmao. Otherwise, no one from any of the Northern unis would ever get into IB. But yeah, gun to my head, purely on the grounds of placement, KCL. Just by the numbers.
pick based on where you prefer will be tough from both but very doable if you are on it from spring week applications. have seen sa’s and an’s from both at my bb
Thank you so much
Yeah fair, I guess especially now when you can do a fair bit of it via phone calls or MT/Zoom
Quality is similar, but KCL is in London which means easier access to people for networking events, coffee chats and likely more firms coming to career firms given the short travel time from The City/Canary Wharf to the campus.
Both have their merits:
King's being in London, easier to go for a coffee with a banker/bank visits, more frequent talks and networking events etc
Bath has a very good year-long industrial placement program with students placing into IB positions (as well as for SA/FT positions)
They are both equally as good at placing into IB, I'd say to focus on getting some good and relevant work experience, interesting hobbies and a generally comprehensive and smart CV. And pick the uni that you'd overall prefer to go to and study at.
You can network by sending emails or InMails on LinkedIn to set up Zoom calls etc so I wouldn't worry about the distance. I myself hold a BB IB SA position and I am at one of these universities.
Hope this helps! :)
Thank you so much I'll make sure to follow all that you said and hey uni is a time to really explore new things as well XD. Congrats on your offer and wish you all the best mahn.
