KKR Analyst - Portfolio Management?
Recently talked to a guy in this group, and wanted to get this forums thoughts on this.
I come from an energy IB background and having a hard time getting myself to take that leap of faith, cutting pay, and switching to real estate.
Is portfolio management a good role? What are future prospects comp? Thanks!
Good job. Good ops
What makes you say that? Just interviewed and it seemed like a data analyst role for fund performance and just reporting to the LPs. Not sure how nice that sounds but could be wrong.
yeah but you work for KKR......
Yeah if you want acquisitions, don’t do it
Sounds like you dont like the job. Wouldn’t do it then if you’re not into it. Plenty of kids out there would switch for KKR...
If you're coming from IB, portfolio management is not going to be what you want. You'd want acquisitions, development, or investment associate or analyst etc. It is not like a HF where a portfolio manager is the real deal. Portfolio management, also sometimes called asset management, is a reporting role. It is about helping key stakeholders understand what is going on with the asset.

Though in all seriousness, we both know that AM/PM at a place like KKR will entail some amount of reporting and will likely be a turn off to OP, who is coming from IB. As OP said "Just interviewed and it seemed like a data analyst role for fund performance and just reporting to the LPs. Not sure how nice that sounds but could be wrong." That is pretty much what I said it would be...
