KPMG Corporate Finance Analyst

Hi,

I have an interview coming up with KPMG corporate finance (Toronto) and was wondering if anyone has some insight into the process. My coming interview is with a recruiter/analyst and half of the interview is dedicated to a technical assessment. Wondering how I should prepare and what to expect from this, and the next stages of the process.

I am also interviewing at a couple boutique M&A shops in Toronto as well as Corp Dev for one of the Big Banks. How would KPMG CF fit with respect to these other roles?

Anyone who works at KPMG CF (Toronto), what is it like there? Work, pay range, hours, etc?

Thanks!

Assuming it's a first round interview, the technical assessment should be a multiple choice test on basic corporate finance questions imo (think CAPM, valuation methods, etc.). Keep in mind this is just a guess.

Pay at KPMG will be absolute shit (think $40-60k), but you will get sweet hours and good/great exposure (and socials with hot audit girls). What kind of "boutique M&A shops" are we talking about here? Your decision should be based on this.

Take the corp dev gig only if you are truly passionate about financial institutions (even though it's probably your most lucrative option).

Grass, thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, it is a first round interview. I skipped the initial phone screen by being referred by a VP. Ok cool, will brush up on those topics and whatever other basic concepts I can get through. I'll post my experience on here once it's done.

Hours and hot audit girls sounds nice. The people I know in audit/tax make around 45-50k coming in with zero experience, I had thought CF would be in the 60-70 range, but if the hours are reduced a lot then it makes sense. There are two M&A shops that I am in the process with, one is a 10 person firm with a long standing history in Canada, focusing on consumer/retail and TMT (60/40) from what I have heard. The other is a much smaller firm, only about 3-4 people and is fairly new.

Assuming I was to get all 4 offers (which Im not counting on anyway), my first choice would be between KPMG and the Corp Dev position...
