Lakers - They are Going to be Fun to Watch this Year

Last year, they picked up AD and won the championship.  This year, they got Harrell from the Clippers and may be even better than last year.  Harrell reminds me of Charles Barkley.  He is not the tallest guy on the floor but he is a force inside.  They also picked up Schroder who is a pretty good player. They lost Rondo, Green, and Howard who all played well for them but they are all older guys.  I think trading for some youth was a good move for them.

What're you're thoughts on them repeating. I don't see anyone in the west that can challenge them since Klay Thompson is out for the season. Also don't see anyone in the east that could beat them in a best of 7.

If they have no major injuries, I think they have a high probability of repeating.  The only weakness I see is in the center position with Gasol.  He is an old guy who is still decent but is probably not as good as the combo of Howard and McGee.  However, it might not matter because Harrell is terrific at getting rebounds.

disagree tbh - Gasol is old af yes but he's still got the defensive chops and playmaking ability + floor spacing which neither Javale/Dwight can provide

also, if shit REALLY hits the fan in the postseason they can always play AD at the 5 again and Harrell at the 4 i guess

If the Nets get Harden I could see them taking the Lakers down, but I don't see that trade happening.

I am not sure what to think about Harden.  Sure he is a very good player but he could not win even when he teamed up with Westbrook.  I do no think he is a good fit for the Nets.  They already have a point guard who can drive to the hoop.

If Irving and Durant stay healthy, the Nets are going to be a very good team and may play the Lakers in the finals.  Durant is a great player and Irving is one of the best point guards in the game if he is healthy. His stats are phenomenal for a point guard because he can score with efficiency.  He is a small guy who can drive to the hoop and hit the 3.  He is also a very good rebounder for his size and he shoots close to 90% from the free throw line.

Lakers were the biggest winners of this off season Simply do not see any teams capable of upsetting them. Nuggets, Warriors, Mavs, and Jazz are great second tier teams, but highly unlikely to knock off a much improved Lakers team.

Yeah, I am looking forward to watching Harrell play for them.  He is one tough dude.

What's Next

Did none of you watch Harrell in the postseason? Dude was unplayable. Just a sieve defensively and doesn't fit in the Lakers best lineup last year, which was LeBron+AD+3 shooters

He had a bad post season but that does not mean he is a bad player.  He was good enough to be voted best 6th player of the year.

Completely agree. Lakers fan here, watched a good amount of Clippers games as I expected them to be our biggest competition. Harrell is unplayable in the playoffs which is when teams actually gameplan defensively. He can't shoot, doesn't really have post moves, and pretty much all his offense came from PnR (which is much easier to shut down defensively when you gameplan for it). Defensively, he's undersized and gets played off the floor by good big men like we saw with Jokic.

We've got people saying in the comments that he can't be that bad, since he was 6MOY. That's a regular-season award, and Lebron teams don't worry about the regular season. We play for deep playoff runs, and Harrell just sucks in the postseason due to his player profile. That said, if there is any team for Harrell to excel in and have his weaknesses covered, it will be the Lakers. AD and Gasol are great big men defenders that will be able to mask him.

Anyone praising Harrell must not have watched him play last year in the postseason as @What's Next mentioned. He is indeed a high energy guy that can put up some numbers, but it's very different running a pick & roll against the Hawks or playing tough defensive teams in a best of 7 series in the playoffs - just ask the Clippers.

Still, LBJ did a great job in the offseason and got some interesting pieces - with THT clearly showing that he can take it up a notch the Lakers will once again be a serious threat (if not the most serious). Unfortunately for them, this year is all Boston :)
