Lateraling from non-modelling Levfin group to Elite Boutique/Coverage
I'm currently a first year analyst in aLevFin group that doesn't model. I recently got out of training and started on the desk. I want to eventually lateral to either an EB or a BB Coverage group. I was wondering if this is something that would be possible in the future with the skill set that I'll be picking up over the next 6 months - 1 year. Does anyone have any advice on how to practice my modelling skills so I can ace any lateral interview that may come up?

Take some free or paid online modeling courses, and/or ask someone in your network to send you an old (but populated) model that you can study. Not suggesting that you lie, but I think that 99% of the people you interview with will just assume that you've been modeling. (How else does one underwrite a leveraged cap structure...?)

Like mentioned, most people will assume in LevFin you've done some modeling or reviewed detailed LBO analysis.
Get as much experience in the numbers as you can, (DSC analysis, IRR, Harvest modes). Anything that gives you something to talk about. After that, 1 year out or so, just network. I've seen this done from LevFin>M&A.
