Lateraling Timeline for 1st Year IB Analyst
I am starting as a first year at a BB in NYC in the middle of June. If I would like to lateral to a "better bank", around when should I actively begin looking? Is there a certain timeframe when banks analyze hiring needs, or is this a year-round process?
Since these are actual positions that need to be filled, do I need to be networking? I assume that if I present a qualified application, I'll at least get the interview. Is that true? Thanks.
interested in knowing as well

Read my lateraling guide. Let me know if you have any other questions.
There is no right time -- be networking all the time as spots open up throughout the year and are usually filled very quickly (have seen it done in days at my former BB).
I would draft a ton of emails and blast them off once you start. I've known plenty of kids who tried to lateral from BB to a top BB, and it's a luckbox / super competitive. Many kids who want to lateral end up not going through it because they can't find opportunities.
I would argue the right time to lateral has come when you can coherently answer questions as to why you want to leave your current place and why you want to join the one you're applying at. If your answer is prestige/ brand/ money you're not ready.
