lateraling to IB in Canada
Hi everyone
a relative newbie with a few questions for those familiar with the CDN market.
quick background: finance major
So I've received an offer to work FT in S&T at one of the CAD 5 banks but now, after spending some time meeting/chatting with IBs and learning their roles, I am eventually interested in moving to IB.
So my questions are...
How common is to lateral to IB from S&T (or any other FO function in Can)?
Would it be better to take the FT S&T role and then lateral over after 3-4 years? or would it be better served trying to find a transactions advisory type role and then applying to IB after a while?
I appreciate all the help!!!!!!!
FT S&T and lateral is superior to TA at a Big 4 into IB.
Thanks for the reply and advice! How long do you suppose I would have to work in S&T before expressing my intent/making a move?
6mo-1yr?
Thanks
Is this an S&T rotational? If so, try and spend time on the DCM desk which rolls into S&T rotationals in Canada. If you can get a FT from DCM, it'd be pretty straightforward to lateral. Definitely better than TAS either way.
Good advice, but don't know how likely the chance of getting a spot on dcm would be
