Wasserstein passing won't slow down Lazard, it is an institution that was always bigger than one man (Rohatyn, etc)

What the future holds for Lazard (especially in London) (Originally Posted: 04/16/2008)
Many people are predicting that M&A global dealflow will continue to fall [already down X% YTD where X varies according to who you talk to)
So what's going to happen to Lazard, a firm whose business model is almost solely focused on M&A?
They've got Restructuring of course, which can be relied upon to some extent in a downturn. But I'm told this team is very small in London. And looking at completed M&A deals on their website, there seem to be very few deals involving UK targets/acquirors.
Do they do more middle-market deals OR do they start firing people!?

Not in the industry, but I would suspect that Laz is still doing well their restructuring and capital raising business. I know two guys in the latter, and it seems like they are staying pretty busy. Would be interested in hearing input from people in the industry though...
Lazard has an investment management division as well as a capital markets division
I am, of course, aware of Lazard Asset Management, but as far as I know, it's a completly separate entity from the advisory side, so that's not really what I am interested in.
As I already said, restructuring @ Laz is pretty big in New York, but I am trying to find out more about the London office, where I have been told that particular team is v. small
Capital Raising business is v. small (to my knowledge)
I'd be interested in other opinions as well, with a focus on what's going to happen on the advisory side.
