Licensing requirements for starting an asset management firm

I'm a college student studying economics. My eventual career goal is to start my own asset management firm or a hedge fund. Can anyone tell me what licenses would I need to start an asset management firm or a hedge fund? I'd like to plan things out.

Yes, a track record is important. I'm interested in licensing requirements now because it affects my study plan at the university --what courses to take etc. That's something I can do now to plan for the future.  A track record takes time to establish and there isn't much I can do about that until I have already graduated. Managing a small amount of personal funds does not really count as establishing a track record.
