Lie About Diversity
I'm of Asian descent but I look really Mexican, could I say my mom is mexican and get into these diversity events?

I thought of doing this, but I'm also planning on running for political office when I get older and pandering for the Hispanic vote, so this is a no go for me.
Worked for Pocahontas. Fake it till you make it!
Obviously this is wrong, but wondering if their is any way the firm finds out?
Dude, go for Samoan or Maori....that's your ticket.
It’ll work, for better or for worse.
Wouldn’t it be sus, not to be racist but don’t see any Mexican -Asian couples?
They'd have pretty hard working babies.
Wait this is a serious question. Will firms actually check your parents to see if this is true?
If you claim diversity and something seems off they will sniff you out. A friend of mine has family from Costa Rica but his skin is somewhat white. Interviewed for an S&T role and his interviewer just so happened to be hispanic/latino. Questions about his background, connection to culture were brought up.
Honestly if you want to classify as super diversity you are better off going as pacific islander because they are much rarer & truly URM in IB, easier to tell half-truths since you are asian. Good chance if you claim latino/hispanic they will bring up spanish, cultural cues that may blow your cover.
Diversity system is broken but I hope it sits well with you that you are taking the spot of an actually underrepresented minority who may be a first-gen college student when you do this.

I want to reiterate this - diversity spots exist for minorities and it is completely underhanded for someone to consider taking this place. Is that how you want to start your banking career? On a lie? Giving minorities a spot does not disadvantage anyone, they have to pass the tests too. Imagine if I a white person tried to do that? What would you think of me?
Incredible amount of misinformation here. Not giving my opinion per se, but I’ve been involved in diversity hiring and I’m pretty sure white kids have done this. There is no lie detector and I’m very surprised to hear the above posts about interviewers questioning the authenticity of the interviewees - this seems highly unlikely given the nature of recruiting and especially diversity recruiting.
What would Fujimori do?
Get your 23andme checked. If you look mexican, you may not be of Asian descent, regardless of what your dad thinks. The word "asian" is somewhat meaningless, since it could mean anything between Japanese, Kazahk, Filipino, Indians, or even Andamanese -- these groups are genetically quite distinct, rendering the term without meaning.
It is believed that many of the native peoples of the Americas crossed over from Asia to the Americas via the Bering Strait land bridge. Thus you are good fam
it happens a lot. More often see people claim themselves as LGBT
