Likely post-internship path

Hi there,

This is my first post here on WSO, so sorry if it's in the wrong place or a little bit vague.

I have landed an ER internship at a BB bank in London, and I'm really excited to start but just had a few questions...

Firstly, what extent should I prepare to, I think I find out the desk I am on in about March, so obviously can't focus on an industry just yet, but is there anything else good to be doing. I have heard reading the Intelligent Investor may be a good start.

Also, I am not sure what I want to do long-term. I chose ER because I thought it would give me amazing training and relates a little to my degree (Physics) in terms of being a bit more quantitative than other roles. What are possible outcomes from my internship? Could I leverage it to get a S&T role at the same bank or another BB?

Also, if I stay in ER longer-term, what proportion move to AM or HF? Is this a common move?

Thanks for any replies.
