Linking Excel exhibit to Word and PowerPoint
Anyone have a suggestion on how to link an Excel spreadsheet to Word or PowerPoint? I always copy my exhibit / graphic from Excel as a picture and then pasted as an enhanced metafile into my destination sheet.
Needless to say I've become extremely frustrated with constantly having to go back and re-paste exhibits in reports in Word / pitchbook in PowerPoint.
Any words of advice from the WSO community?
I use the capIQ plugin, it allows you to update all of your linked items with one click. Although, I usually go through and do them individually just to make sure nothing gets messed up.
Home run, my firm uses the CIQ platform. How do you link between your destination sheet and excel workbook?
Not sure I know what you mean but there is a CIQ add-in tab in excel where you hit copy and then you go to the ppt add-in tab and hit paste. Obviously you can use alt shortcuts and make it pretty quick.
Paste special, click "Paste Link" option on left hand side, choose "Microsoft Excel Chart/Worksheet Object". Right click on object and select "Update Link" when needed. Should update automatically if both files are open I believe.
Pasting pictures is the way to go for me. Linking objects and editing the original within a ppt will get really confusing when you mess something up.
Wow Buegie just straight hooking it up. I can't believe it, my firm set up CIQ for Excel only. Downloaded the PowerPoint and Word Plugins, and boom - game over. Just a straight powerplay now. You just saved an absurd amount of inevitable wasted time from my life with that advice.
Silver Banana to you my friend.
