List of Finance Movies - Help me eliminate the shitty candidates

Hey monkeys,

I spent my free time browsing the forums for Finance movies so I could create a collection. After watching one of the movies recommended (The Game with Michael Douglas), I realized that some of these movies are very loosely connected to finance and I might as well have just added Assault on Wall Street to the collection.

Please help me narrow / add movies to my collection with exceptions for classics such as American Pyscho. I went ahead and deleted #4 Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson , so you can skip that one.

  1. American Psycho
  2. Arbitrage
  3. Boiler Room
  4. Cosmopolis

Yeah, I would scratch arbitrage. Here are a couple which aren't technically finance but they really remind me of aspects of finance:

  1. Bright Lights Big City - great movie and great book which is about a young professional partying in 1980s New York City while trying to find himself.

  2. The Firm - Technically a law movie, but so much of this resonates with me. The character has gone through a super competitive elite recruitment process, he works like crazy, and then finds out things aren't what they seem.

  3. Glengarry Glenross - just an amazing movie on shady salesmen

In my own movie library, I have an expanded criteria of Wall Street movies plus business in general.

What I disliked about Rogue Trader is that I felt the movie paled in comparison to the real life story. It's like the script writer was handed this amazing true life tale and the best he could do was construct an ok or halfway decent movie. I almost wish that someone would redo it.

Great list. You included almost every movie. The only one i can add is Suits (tv series): more about lawyers, but one of teh character becomes an investment banker down the show, and it's a good insight about the corporate and business world in general (and the good life too ahahh)

I finished s1 of Billions last night. Watched like 3-4 seasons of Suits years ago. Billions stands head and shoulders above Suits IMO, but Suits is worth watching. I think White Collar is a more fun watch than Suits.

heister: Look at all these wannabe richies hating on an expensive salad. https://arthuxtable.com/

I've also thought about adding:

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong -- Movie about an Investment Banker in Hong Kong who decides to pursue photography instead and dumps his ex-girlfriend b/c he develops yellow fever

Gattaca -- great movie for non-targets looking to get into investment banking (it's a sci-fi movie)

What concert costs 45 cents? 50 Cent feat. Nickelback.
