little confused

hey,
Ive been trying to figure out this whole business and how it all works but have gotten kind of caught up. I get Investment banking and how it is the sell side of things correct? then there is trading and such on the buy side? and there is all this venture capital, consulting, hedge funds, mutual funds, private inequity and im sure the list could go on and I dont get how it all fits in. Does this all tie into an investment bank as a whole and it has all these different sections? I am interested in the buy side of things and trading, but it doesnt seem to be like "i want to be a trader" and thats it, sounds like u can be a trader in all these different funds and markets and it gets kind of confusing. any articles or explanations would be great. hopefully this all made sense!
