Living in Jersey City? Apartment recommendations!

Do any of you guys live in Jersey City and commute to work in Manhattan through the PATH? For those working at GS, DB, RBC, and Citi where the banks are within close walking distance from the WTC, it seems that the commute door to door is around 15-20 minutes.

At a first glance, the apartments in Jersey City are much more luxurious and spacious for a bit more expensive price than NYC. However, as a first and second year analyst, I'm thinking that by living in Jersey City, spending $2200ish per person for a 2 bed/2 bath in a luxurious building isn't outrageous due to the tax savings. Do any of you who work in Fidi/Tribeca commute or have colleagues who commute from Jersey city? Do you recommend it? If so, what aprtment buildings are good? Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Downtown JC is nice. It's clean, safe and quiet at night. Actually it's rather dead at night, unless you're near Grove St. Majority of the area is comprised of corporate buildings, so it won't be bustling like Hoboken, which may be a good thing if you prefer serenity? Personally, I'd prefer this over Hoboken especially after coming home after a long day at work. You can easily access midtown and downtown with the use of Path station, there is also the ferry. There's a mall, which is walking distance or you can take the light rail, which will be a few blocks... The only downfall of Jersey City are the prices and the City doesn't fuck around with parking. So if you have a car and don't have a parking spot, find one first and expect the rent to go up every year. It's being squeezed from people who are looking to move out of Manhattan.

Pros: Value Close commute Quieter (If that appeals to you)

Cons: Nightlife revolves around Manhattan May have to take the path and transfer to a subway depending on where you work You can't say you live in Manhattan

To me this really all comes down to if are you willing trade the social aspect and convenience of Manhattan for a way better value apt. and a slight inconvenience to your social life.
