HK doesn't screen resumes until very late november. if someone passes your resume you get a first round interview.
ok i see, so i shouldn't reach out to my contact asking who to follow up with till around november?
you should wait until they email you to set up times for first round phone interviews. unless you are a relationshire hire summer analyst (in which case you won't get a FT offer), all the contact does is allow you to automatically get a first round interview. you still have to do exceptionally well to get to superday and get an offer
ibhopeful, you seem to know a lot about BB's in HK. you have any idea how many FT each is hiring this year? i heard they aren't hiring massively. any stats is appreciated!
Really not sure about FT recruiting. What I can tell you is that essentially every bank is swamped and understaffed.
One thing that is a bit unique about HK recruting is that they do "accelerated" interviews during the summer. Essentially all the HR's pass around a resume and they are allowed to invite all interns to interviews (the bank the intern is originally employed at has the right to first offer).
I know a lot of the banks hired some already. JP morgan hired 9 ft analyst from other banks (but less than half accepted). As expected, yield rate is low through this method as most people develop some sort of relationship with the team they originally worked for.
I'm fairly confident HK recruiting will pick up this year. Do your due-diligence however, and find out which banks are good in HK, because some are not doing so great.
