Looking for ideas: best temporary/contract-based jobs?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a commercial real estate guy working on the development and brokerage side of the industry. My long-term goals are to develop projects with my own equity.

I am looking for ideas on jobs or careers that I can pursue in the future, on my own schedule - things that I can focus on when I am not in the middle of a real estate project, and then move away from when I get busy developing.

These other jobs could be anything that offers the ability to work on ~3-12-month contract, and ideally on the lucrative side. Could be white collar or blue collar, require education or training, etc. Obviously "own a side business" is the most efficient answer, and I hopefully will; I'm looking for advice on other hourly/salaried/lump fee employment options.

My current thoughts are geology for O&G/mining/exploration, maritime, computer engineering or military Reserves/NG (not lucrative enough to be a sole thing but personally satisfying). Curious about other ideas that I am not thinking about...anything in transportation, trades like welding, international logistics, healthcare etc etc etc...
Any ideas?

Thank you so much!
