Looking for practical advice
Hello all,
I have been lurking on here on and off for several years, and I figured I would finally introduce myself. I am a 31 year old Army veteran who has been working in the construction industry since I left the Army in 2016 doing business development for construction supply companies in NYC. After finishing my MBA two nights ago, I am moving forward with my plan to get into the finance industry.
I finished my MBA from a non-target while working full-time and building a small clothing company to educate transitioning veterans on opportunities post-service as well over the last two years.
I know there are numerous veteran programs to get your foot in the door for IB, but IB is not a route for me. I have a family and my second child on the way, so I am looking for some feedback on other areas of finance from those who work in it.
I have been considering Wealth management, Commercial Credit, and possibly S&T, but I am not a quant and I feel like this may exclude me from it.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

First, thank you for your service. Second, I don't have much advice to give since I'm a college student but I will try to help out. To my understanding S&T has hours that are just as bad if not worse than IB. As you mentioned you are a family man, I'm not sure you would be interested in that commitment. I am not well informed on Commercial Credit. However, Private Wealth Management definitely is a great place to start in finance. I would also recommend looking into Asset/Investment Management. I know a lot of prestigious bulge bracket banks would love to have a veteran on board in either PWM or AM. An MBA is already a fantastic start. Best of luck.
This is all wrong. S&T hours are not bad or worse than IB... 7am-7pm would be bad hours for S&T. Already having an MBA is not going to help because you're cut off from the typical recruiting pathway of summer associate and the associated diversity recruiting.
You should try to get into PWM at a local boutique (networking is your best shot) or commercial credit roles you can typically just apply for fairly successfully.
