Looking to switch out of FP&A role into Assistant Controller
I have been working a MNC for 3 years now. Two of those in the Corporate finance department. 1st year as the financial analyst and the second as the FP&A supervisor. It was a great opportunity to get a macro view of the business, interact with CFO-other high level individuals and learn to manage one direct report; however there are no other roles within such department. I recently signaled to the CFO that I would like to be considered for a more finance operational role as an Assistant Controller at one of our facilities. It seems this will materialize within the next month or so. My reasoning for moving out of the “Corporate” office and into an operation is that I would like to be closer to the “real” world and learn ins/out of the business while being exposed to a more P&L ownership role. All to frequently I worked with other Corporate FP&A-financial analysts within other divisions of our company to find out they had no clue about the operations and thus how some of the financial statements were impacted by certain drivers. In some instances this individual were quite high up but always were on corporate like positions which probably lead to such knowledge gap. I said to myself that I would not want to end up like that.
Has anybody else experienced/noticed the same?
Note: I am only 24 years old.
