Lost Contact after a few emails

So I been cold emailing some smaller boutiques, generally MDs, for job openings,

I find that after the first few email exchanges, the MDs stop responding to my emails. This has happened a number of times and it is deeply frustrating.

I have no idea why, I read all my emails over again and I didn't say anything offensive or rude....

The first email exchange general involve some questions after my resume, all very cordial...then bam, they stop responding to my emails

Any ideas why this is happening?

Would it okay If I called them directly?

How much time has passed since you received an email from them? In other words, did they not respond to your most recent email and you're worried or have you emailed them multiple times over the last few weeks and gotten no responses at all? If its the first scenario, I would shoot them another email saying something like, I know how busy you are but I really appreciate your time and that you thought of another question etc etc etc just make up a reason for sending another email before receiving a response to the first if that makes sense? If it's the second scenario then I would just forget it and focus your efforts elsewhere.

It's possible that the exchange just seemed interminable to the MD. Networking back-and-forths can only go so far before they reach their logical conclusion, so you have to either ask for what you want, or, if it's not time for that yet, say something about being in touch closer to recruiting. Nobody's going to entertain an endless string of questions.
