Since the work is regional I would consider the following. Many Middle Eastern countries are going through rapid changes and trying to diversity their income streams for O&G. No doubt a large part of deals will still have that focus, but in the coming years there will be more focus on industries like renewables, real estate, infrastructure, tourism, aviation and healthcare. Since many of those countries have cash to burn, a good portion of that activity will be fuelled by inorganic growth both from the private and public sectors. I think doing a few years there may lead to pretty good deal exposure.

Do it. This will be an awesome resume builder, and if it doesn’t work out, it won’t look bad. You can couch it as a learning experience and always head back to London. While based in NY, I did several deals in the Middle East, and it was an eye opening experience. I also really enjoyed the people and culture.
