M&A Student Prep

I’m an international student at the University of Kentucky. I’m seeking M&A in Investment Banking. I couldn’t join the Wall Street Scholar program at the university because they only accept Freshman students, and I’m a transfer student. I’m trying to find a mentor or at least some who can tell me if I’m on the right track or not.

Any recommendations?

You should probably edit out a lot of this information and change your username - it’s best to not share personal information on a public forum.

The best thing to do is get as good of grades as possible, get relevant internships, network as much as possible, and prepare for interviews by practicing the technical & behavioral guides.

That’s the secret sauce to landing IBD, it’s just a question of how much of each you have to do.

You should do a search on this forum. Investment banking recruiting starts sophomore year of college and you need to have people pushing for you at every bank to be successful from a non target, this is not something you can easily decide to do in your last year of school. It's also difficult being an international student who will need sponsorship. This is not an easy path given your situation.

Wall street bootcamp is a good start to learn basic financials, but you should be focusing on having some relevant internships #1, networking #2, GPA #2 (should be 3.7+) and extracurriculars #3. I would start with finding Kentucky alumni and asking if they have 30 min to chat, ask them how they got to where they are.
