CFO.com has a weekly update on the deals including the financial and legal advisors, along with some deal info, depends on what you are looking for in terms of information. If it's a student searching then there is the dealbook on nytimes, there is even a spot on cnn business for each deal, and CFO or WSJ dealbook.

Your best bet is press releases. Nine times out of ten, CapIQ doesn't have anything that isn't in a press release somewhere. In fact, I often have to go to the news wires to fill in holes in CapIQ.

If you are in school, check with your library to see if they have Nexis, or another news search database. Some school libraries even subscribe to CapIQ, Thomson OneBanker, or something similar.

The difference between successful people and others is largely a habit - a controlled habit of doing every task better, faster and more efficiently.

There was a user on here who started a blog with a weekly run-down of M&As and IPOs. I can't remember the name offhand, but hopefully he'll come in and remind us. From what I could tell, he did a lot of the legwork in terms of tracking and summarizing deals.
