Making a move from Dubai to Wall Street
Hello all,
I'm interested to hear fellow views on opportunities available for a DCM/Loan banker considering to move from Dubai to NYC. The reason for the move is for career progression.
The monkey in question is yours truly. For the last 11yrs I've worked in DCM/Loan Origination and Syndicate out of London (1yr) and Dubai (10yrs) for top tier US and UK Investment banks, currently heading Debt Syndicate for a local bank.
It's safe to say that most bond issuances from the Middle East are denominated in US$, either RegS or 144A format, which requires an understanding of the US fixed income investor base, technicalities of the US market, and working with US based DCM teams.
An internal transfer would be the ideal option, but this is not available within my current bank since we do not have a presence in the States. Moreover, my old bank closed their US business down a couple of years back.
I'm simply looking for insight on whether employment opportunities at the VP/Director level are available in public or private side DCM roles for someone looking to make that shift from Dubai to New York? Is there a play to be made presenting oneself as a fixed income Sales guy for Middle Eastern investors based out of NY?
Any advice or pointers would be most helpful.
Thanks
