Making millions on YouTube
Ah Christmas. It's that time of the year again and I'm clearing leave, enjoying my leave, sleeping in and lazing in my bed just scrolling through random shit on the internet. Now it's no surprise popular Youtubers make big bucks, but as I look through the ton of videos online, I was just blown away by how many non-quality content oriented videos there were! I'm not talking about videos on how to cook, work out, etc. I'm talking about random things like vlogs, random game reviews, and one was even a random dude just story telling into the camera... some of these have insane views / subscribers - has anyone here made such videos / subscribes to such videos and can shed some light on what drives so much viewership on non-content oriented videos? Seems to me like any random Joe could just start the camera rolling and make these videos - is there even anything remotely interesting in watching other people go about their day (vlogs)?

There's a lot of trash on YouTube and Facebook videos... But people watch it... ALL of it!
As someone who has made money off youtube, the norm (not my case) is that people who vlog tend to hae an audience who think they are attractive or want a life similar to video producers (eg. rich). People who simply story tell are people with an audience who think they are funny. People who make reviews have an audience that think they are either entertaining (eg. Dunkey) or think their reviews offer information in an easy to understand way for practical use.
Audiences on Youtube are almost exclusively young, which means they want to follow people who are living a life they coudln't dream of, so they live vicariously. The other side is mostly informational and gaming imo.
Easy way to get started is similar to what is posted previously by Max-Muller1, people buy a smaller amount of subs, say 1-5k, then try to grow semi-organically while supplementing with additional purchased subs to show consistent growth. All social media is the same, people use this on every app and it is pretty effective. I know people that make $15k-$20k a year posting on instagram once a week simply because they bought instagram followers.
