IPA (institutional property advisors) is good stuff, they're owned by M&M and brokers who work for IPA also do work for M&M, but not the other way around. I was talking to a senior IPA guy, he said for any deals <$10M he gives his M&M business card, anything greater than $10M he gives the IPA card. 

Caution though, brokerage teams are all market dependent. Check out their listings online and see if they've got decent deals. Also search for posts by them on linkedin to see what they've sold recently or launched. 

Thanks, the position I was offered is full salary as an analyst for the support team. Wondering what that would be like.

I actually just started at M&M as a financial analyst for the IPA team in retail, and so far my experience has been great with both junior and senior agents as well as other back office people. Training was a little weird since we have such high deal flow right now so it was very self-paced until they were able to do more hands on training. From what I've personally experienced with my team so far and from what they've told me about M&M, its pretty relaxed and inviting. This could just be our team though, obviously not every team is going to operate the same way. 

All those broker support jobs depend entirely on the team. Trust your gut and if the guy hiring you seems like an ok guy then it’s an ok job.

Dealmakers make 10x or more than any salary/support role. There’s not always a clear path from support to sales/broker. If that’s your end game maybe it’s worth jumping right into a commissioned role and skip being analyst.

I agree with a lot of the responses so far.  I interviewed with an IPA group in a strong market one year ago for an analyst role.  This specific group had just left another larger shop (JLL,CBRE, CW) and was establishing a team at M&M.  The team focused on larger assets still mainly private clients but I am sure some IPA teams in larger markets do institutional level deals.  As far as culture its all team dependent but in my experience the IPA teams have been more polished than other brokers with M&M.

Worked there for 2+ years. It is very very much team dependent. If you're working for an IPA team, you should be in good hands. Think of IPA as HFF or JLL in their earlier days. I was fortunate to be part of a top 5 firm-wide team in terms of sales so I had amazing exposure to my MDs and the different asset classes / portfolios that they sold. I wouldn't join M&M for any average joe team unless they're a solid IPA or top 10 team.
