Market Research to Equity Research or IB... what are some good resume boosters?

I'm currently an client manager in the Financial Services group at one of the top Market Research consulting firms. Most of our clients are Equity Researcher analysts on the sell-side but we work with the IB guys, and buy-side equity folks as well. I'm looking to transition into Equity Research and have no problem getting interviews as I have really strong personal relationships with all the head analysts at all the bb's, by way of my current role. I also have really strong knowledge of their coverage universe, understand the research business (market research isn't so different and we get all the sell side research from our clients) and am an expert on the most important database they use within this particular sector. The only problem is that I don't have financial modeling experience. There are some guys that left my team to join the sell-side, but many of them had MBA's or simply got lucky and didn't get pressed on their modeling skills.

I know a lot of people say Training the Street and Wall Street Prep are really good, but do they look good on a resume? I've more or less taught myself how to create basic models but really need a solid credential to put on my resume, ideally one that doesn't cost $1500. I saw an NYU continuing education course called "Financial Modeling in Corporate Financial Analysis Using Excel". I feel like the NYU brand is stronger than Wall Street Prep or the like and would make a better bullet on the resume. There's another one called "PERFORM EQUITY RESEARCH LIKE A WALL STREET ANALYST" but that frankly sounds pretty lame and hard to put on a resume.
