MBA for Career Worth it? & No MBA/IB Experience but Broke into M&A Explained

Corp Pledge Asking For Advice!

Background:

I’m in my mid to late 20s currently working for a tech company on the Corporate Development, M&A team as a 1st - almost 2nd year associate. Prior to this, I was working as an FP&A analyst at the same company I currently work for and I also worked in almost every function possible as an analyst (I got lucky and was able to prove myself and so when there was an opening on the team, I was given the opportunity to take it) Luckily, I was able to transfer over to the Corporate Developemnt M&A team where we strictly do M&A deals and purely financial modeling as I hear some Corp dev roles are more focused on Strategy than M&A. I also got this Corp Dev role without needing to be in IB or without needing a MBA as I networked my ass into it and took tons of modeling courses on the side to prove to everyone at my company that I can build all sorts of models and was well-rounded enough. Long story short, I basically broke into BuySide without IB, MBA and without going to a Target School and tbh I would say it was 70% hard work, 30% luck.

Questions:
Anyways, I love finance and actually like my job but my goal is to either end up in 1) VC 2) Head of Corp Dev or even 3) CFO. Given my internal (FP&A) and external (M&A) experience, I think it may be possible way down the line, 4) Strategy (no particular order of preference as I’m still trying to figure that out) However, I would love to work in VC but I feel like you really need to know people in that field and so I was wondering if this was true or not?

Also, is a MBA a must to climb up the Corproate ladder in my position/in any of those positions I mentioned above? If so, would an online MBA cut it even though I understand that getting a MBA is mostly for networking with alumni/classmates etc...? If the answer is yes to either of the two, would a top 25 MBA program cut it or will only a top 10 program cut it? Ideally I’d want to do an online program because I went to work and make money and not be in any debt post-MBA.

Any responses/ advice on career progression would be much appreciated! I feel like I’m in a great position but don’t want to get stuck. If anyone wants to hear more about my story feel free to PM/DM me and I can try to help out as I know how hard it is to go from a FP&A or Accounting position to M&A

Hey, I'm about to start my accounting job and I am not an MBA too (SAP FICO erp software). But my interest is financial modeling and I am doing courses and going through standard books for the same. I aim to use python, SQL and clouds for modelling too.

What sector would you recommend working in ? Tech/consumer etc. as an accountant, so as to get knowledge about the industry which would have better chances of getting a financial modeling job at.

Any additional advice/tips would be beneficial too.

Thanks in advance !
