MBA IBD recruiting with GRE instead of GMAT
I have heard anecdotally from my network that campus recruiting for post MBA associates/summer associates can utilize GMAT scores as a filter for candidates. I have also heard the opposite. Would I be at a disadvantage for IBD recruiting if I elected to take the GRE instead of the GMAT? Any stratification by boutique vs BB?
Other background: I have a ~3.9 GPA in engineering from a top 5 school (but it's a public school) and work experience in oil and gas at a major company (think BP, XOM, RDS, etc.) Received a promotion and selected for a high profile assignment... planning to apply to T15 schools this Fall.
Do you already have a GRE score? If not, I'm not sure why you would decide to take the GRE instead. Some (if not most) top 15 schools require the GMAT, and banks do ask during recruiting if it is not listed on your resume.
I don't know of anyone at my school who recruited banking with just a GRE score, unless they already had taken the GRE for another grad school prior to their MBA or something like that. Like your undergrad GPA, major, work experience, etc., the GMAT is just another data point that banks look at when making cuts.
I took a test with fairly little prep last year (was considering part time grad course work per my supervisor) and did ~92% V/80% Q. I wanted to be efficient and take advantage of past study.
Concerning to hear that, thanks for the feedback. I'm somewhat perplexed as all MBA business schools">M7 (I'm primarily interested in M7) are accepting GRE and claim to view both equally...
