MBA Internship Advice to setup for FT Recruiting
Hey everyone! As the recruiting cycle comes to a close, I was hoping to get some advice on my current situation. I'm currently at a Top 25 MBA program and am looking to make the jump from the public sector to consulting (M&A/Strategy). Unfortunately, internship recruiting didn't go as well as I was hoping and I know a lot of that had to do with my networking. Looking ahead though, I was hoping to get some advice on which internship would put me in the best position for FT recruiting (assuming I continue to network over the summer and once I return to campus)? My offers are as follows:
- Federal Consulting - specifically focused on enterprise strategy and transformation
- Federal Consulting - specifically focused on human capital
- Biotechnology - specifically focused on strategy/strategic partnerships
- Private Equity - unpaid associate role with a very very small PE shop
With the understanding that my end goal is M&A/Strategy consulting for FT, which do you all think is the best option?
Thanks in advance for any help!
1 or 3 as those are closest to your interests. Personally I'd pick #3 if you're focused specifically on M&A/Strat. PE seems interesting but if it's unpaid and that small of a shop, then I don't think it's worth it.
^agreed
Thanks for the response! I figured 1 or 3 were the best choices. I was going to choose 1, but the company name isn't as well known and their offer was pretty low. With 3, I figured it would help separate me from my public sector background.
Any other responses?
I think it depends on the story you want to tell during FT recruiting. I'm not in b-school yet, but from advice I've received from current 2nd years, they all said to go with the company that you can see yourself working for after your program.
imthelord, I agree with the advice you received, but if I'm being honest with myself, I'm not sure I could see myself working for any of them post-MBA, except for the PE firm, but I doubt they have the ability to bring me on full-time. At this point, I'm just looking for the internship that could help with my career switch and provide me with some good stories for FT recruiting.
Thanks everyone for the advice so far. Keep it coming!
