Why don't you call up HBS?

Not thread jacking, but asking a related question: If I get my MBA at HBS, GSB, CBS, etc. Will my kids have legacy at Harvard/Stanford/Columbia/etc for undergrad? or do I have to go there for undergrad for it to count?

Interested in this as well. I’ve heard HYP legacy requires you to go to HYP UG, but Wharton MBA still counts for Wharton UG legacy. Can someone weigh in here?

Stop worrying about legacy - focus on getting in based on your own merits. To briefly answer the question: you will not have much of an edge whether your dad (or you in the case of the last question) went to HBS, H Law or H Ugrad, unless he is active in the H community - big donor, sitting on a committee, board, etc - or if he is a big name that knows some people in the previous category that can help.

That said, it definitely doesn't hurt to have any legacy, nor does it hurt to have legacy write letter of rec - at the end of the day, however, it won't be a big game changer.

This.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

Legacy didn't do a dang thing for me at HBS. I definitely wouldn't expect it to be a significant boost at all. If you aren't eligible to get in by your own merit, don't expect legacy to make the difference.
