MBA Non-IB FT recruiting after IB Summer Asscoiate
Current MBA student joining a top bank this summer (GS/MS/JPM/EVR) as a summer associate. I am fully prepared to accept the reality that banking is not for me, and want to get my ducks in a row before the summer begins. Curious to hear anecdotes from anyone who did a summer associate gig and successfully re-recruited for something else in the fall. Are companies eager to poach those with IB internships/do LinkedIn recruiters reach out during the summer? When is a good time to start reaching out to companies/recruiters?

Not an MBA Aso but will chime in. I'm guessing re-recruiting will heavily depend on your pre-MBA experience since most will sort of discount the summer gig. I've seen people jumping to PE from summer Aso so this might be an option for you. One thing I'm curious tho, you say you're ready to accept banking is not for you (even tho you haven't actually worked as a banker yet) and it seems you have made your mind already about recruiting again. If that's the case, why did you decide for IBD summer internship instead of looking at another career? Generally, you should showcase strong conviction for your choices at the Aso lvl.
Perhaps I was drinking the Kool-Aid thinking 70-80 hr weeks were the norm and logging in from home after 7/8pm was acceptable. But after what's come to light over the past month (GS 13), it seems like the risk/reward profile for 2-3 years in banking post-MBA has shifted for the worse.
Makes sense. Even pre-GS13 the risk/reward profile for an MBA Aso was completely different from that of an analyst. You will sure avoid the Analyst slavery and be closer to the VP promotion - not that life will get drastically better but still - however, joining at this level usually means you want to stay for the long term so if you think this is not for you (and confirm it through the internship) then you need to start crafting an appealing story (why not banking, why switch to x career etc.) and start recruiting/networking for your next move.
