MBA profile

Hi all,

Wanted to get some thoughts on my profile for a full time MBA

My stats:
Asian Male 30 (will be 31 when applying to schools next year, and will turn 32 shortly after matriculating)
3.9 GPA from top 50 undergrad in US
Yet to take GMAT but expecting 700-720
Work experience: 7 years in corporate finance (FP&A), including completion of a top rotational program, and am currently an FP&A manager at a different company (one of Microsoft, Google, Apple, Facebook)

Some thoughts I have are just that I would like to do a full time MBA, but am concerned my age will hurt my chances at top schools.

I have not completely ruled out a part time MBA, but would definitely prefer full time just because I feel like the degree will open more doors, especially through OCR

Executive MBA does not seem to be a realistic option because my firm will only sponsor director level and higher for this degree

Thanks in advance everyone for your thoughts!

Yeah, we need more info here. But overall the background seems to track well with non-HSW MBA business schools">M7, and T10-15, all perfectly good schools with strong opportunities.

Somewhat in conflict is that you mention firm sponsorship, but also OCR; are you planning to return to your current company and are thinking about an exploratory/fun internship, or thinking about switching careers?

Hi all thanks for the responses.

I would like to stay in corporate finance long-term, and am open to staying at my current firm, but would also like to explore other options that an MBA could open up to me as well. That is why I am interested in a FT MBA first because it would give me access to OCR and potential new opportunities, however, if I were to not attend a FT MBA and instead do PT, I would be open to staying in my current role.

I would ideally target schools within the MBA business schools">M7, but am also open to T15 schools as well if they have strong OCR.

Also curious about whether my age would be an issue at any of the M7?

Thanks again!

Your goal is in line with T15/20 as far as staying in FP&A.

For ORMs at the MBA business schools">M7, most are on fast track careers in IB/MBB/F500/PE, work for 2-3 years for 70+ hours a week and apply to B school. This is not completely a done deal, just that the average incoming WE is skewing to more junior professionals for full time programs (the median has dropped from 5.5 to 4.5 years of experience at matriculation). The good news is you have promotions and vertical progression in this time, minimizing the extent of this effect.

Have people in your job applied to B school before? Where did they attend and how much experience did they have?
