MBA vs. Masters in Data Science: Which is a better investment?
“What they needed was someone with a business head who could also speak the language of software engineers."
Here is an interesting article that highlights the growing popularity of data science degrees at business schools:
Degree courses specialising in data science are booming, driven by excitement about the potential of data analysis in business, and fear of being left behind. In the US, where applications for the traditional two-year MBA course have been declining for several years, masters degrees in data analytics are a growth market.
Among men, big data was second only to finance in popularity, up from 13th place, in CarringtonCrisp’s last survey. For women, the shift has been in the same direction but less significant, moving from 13th to eighth place, behind management, accounting, human resources and psychology.
With the increasing growth and innovation in technology comes an increasing demand for employees with tech knowledge. As a result, these degrees (data/business analytics) are becoming more and more popular in business schools, sometimes even beating more traditional MBA's.
Can you see the trend towards data science degrees continuing over the next couple of years?
Will data science degrees ever beat finance degrees in terms of popularity?
Which one do you think is a better investment?
