MBB online application status
I'm a 2010 top 15 MBA graduate currently working in industry. I have 3.7 GPA, 740 GMAT and an engineering undergrad with 4 years of progressive experience with a fortune 100. I submitted my online applications for MBB on 4/8. Although it might be off cycle recruitment time for consulting, usually how long does it take to hear about your application status?
You didn't have anyone in your network from MBA who works at MBB and could get you away from the black hole that is the online application?
I'm not from MBB's core MBA schools, but did network with a few alums working there. They suggested submitting an online application.

You might hear back tomorrow or you might hear back never.
Off-cycle online applications are black holes. If the firm has hiring needs, and they have no resumes/contacts from current employees, then they'll go through the online applications. You are better off cold-emailing a recruiter than you are blindly submitting an online application.
It's not impossible, it's just highly unlikely. I'd compare it to winning the lottery - it's luck, not skill.
Persuade one of your friends to drop your resume. Don't know why they wouldn't - it's not exactly high-risk unless they want to add a recommendation, which is at their discretion. (and even then a stinker candidate only marginally reduces the chances that recruiting listens to you again...)

Don't believe the resume shredder myth of online applications.
There's always someone who takes things literally to try to debunk them - congratulations, you're right, the odds are lower than winning the lottery! It's an illustrative example, "prospectivemonkey" - and let me assure you that, while you may have vast experience in getting interviews, I actually work at one of the firms the OP's interested in.
Trust me when I tell you that the online app is only worthwhile if you have a golden resume and you hit the right window when a firm's looking to hire. And if you have a golden resume... why won't your friends drop it for you?
Phone a friend... trust me.
I was 1/8 in landing interviews from online applications, and my resume is top notch compared to my peers. Two companies never even sent me an email declining my application. All my other interviews and offers were from on campus recruiting.

Not a black hole. 2/3 of MBB through these black holes, and coming from a complete non-target (a school with average SAT scores on the old system MBB firm was 3 days, second was about 3 weeks for me. This was for FT.
I went 1 for about 15 with the big banks this way, all my MBB were through OCR or contacts, but I went 3/3 on interviews. My candidacy wasn't all that much better for one or the other...so if you assume that getting an interview at MBB is as hard as at a BB/MM IB, then I think having a contact helps immensely
I had reasonably good luck with online apps for IBD/finance-type SA positions (mostly boutique/MM but a few BB banks too) but no luck with consulting internships at any level. I'm not sure if this is a result of consulting internships being generally harder to get or a result of their online application policies or some other factor.
