MBB Recruiting at non HYPSM Tier Schools List
Are there any schools that MBB has known or has started to recruit at that doesn't fit the traditional HYPSM school? Are there any LACs besides Amherst and Williams that MBB is known to recruit at? I was curious because I've noticed smaller schools get notices that do not immediately come to mind when thinking of MBB recruiting, and would love to hear about more.
Bain Dallas hires from a ton of otherwise non-targets.
Anecdotal evidence, but WUTSL and Emory seem to place pretty well
I received offers from two MBB southern offices and almost all offerees at sell events were from regional schools (Duke, Vanderbilt, UNC, UVA, UGA, Emory, UT). Very few from ivies. Heck, Alabama regularly places a few in MBB every year
Conversely, does this imply that it would be advantageous for target students to apply to the south, or that there is almost a bias against target students there
Generally the southern offices or small city offices take a few non-targets from regional schools. It's the major offices with a lot of demand that are the least friendly to non-targets (and those offices include your obvious New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco).
I go to UChicago and have been getting sort of boned in recruiting so far
So yeah maybe not so much UChicago
very surprising tbh.
We do infinitely better with FT recruiting compared to internships, might be b/c of Chicago office sizes
Not really, SA recruiting has been a shit show even at targets this year it seems.
UChicago has a strong presence in Minneapolis. Next up would be umn and local schools
May be anecdotal, but multiple grad students (~7 of them + myself) in my department (non-business or economics related at all) alone have exited to MBB (some quitting before getting their PhD, and some post-PhD) in the last four years that I've been there (or exited after graduating). It's a very small department too and very few people there want to do consulting, so it's a significant portion. Everyone I know who decided to quit academia and go into consulting ended up getting into MBB. Not sure how that translates to undergrad though, but at the grad level, UChicago seems to place very well among MBB (most I know went to the Chicago office).
Outside of Ivies, Stanford, MIT and A/W, MBB takes a decent number of USC, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Michigan kids

Northwestern places about as well as any Ivy for the Midwest offices.
For any office. NU is a crazy consulting pipeline.
>t. NU to NYC consulting
I wouldn’t say USC
I wouldn’t say USC
USC is sending at least 10 to Bain and BCG this year, also 1-2 mckinsey this year. Source: myself
NYU is sending more and more to MBB every year even with its heavy IB focus
It's like 1-2 kids a year total and none of MBB does on-campus recruiting here at NYU.
It’s more like 5-7. Most go into IB so it’s kinda expected
