Timeline for summer analyst roles at MBB + other consulting firms?
I'm a junior who just decided to try consulting for my final internship. I have no idea what the process is like. Just bought Case in Point and am going to start prep now. What's the recruiting timeline look like for MBB? When is the resume submission deadline? When are interviews? (I think some time in Jan/Feb from what I hear) What else should I be doing right now?
Thanks
This is the timeline for a target school.
This is true for MBBD&
Mid to end of Oct - Resume drop Early Nov - On campus first round mid to late Nov - second round office visit*
a couple of firms(Deloitte & BCG) do their second rounds the day after first rounds.
some firms do a "sale day" the week after thanksgiving.
^is that true? i've seen a lot of Jan deadlines...
Think masterspinner is confusing full time with summer timelines. For internships out of undergrad, all MBB offices have resume drops early Jan, wrapping up around 8-10 weeks after that.
the timeline I gave is actually the timeline for internships at my school!
For my MBB firm, the typical summer internship interview date is in January. It varies from school to school (the interview date for my alma mater is in November), but generally, it's in January.
MBB hiring - too late this for next summer? Timeline? (Originally Posted: 11/28/2014)

Are you undergrad or MBA? In general the networking is in the fall, and the interviews in winter. For MBA, none of the resume deadlines have hit (at least for my school), so you can still apply...that said, based on your question it doesn't seem like you really understand consulting or it's recruiting process, so it might be too late for you to "get up to speed" in time.
Im actually JD. My original plan was to apply fulltime.
I dont have access to the business school recruiting so I'm not sure how to approach this. Our career services isn't helpful.
I know someone who got an MBB offer in my class recently and they do hire regularly from my school. I've been studying case interviewing but just don't know the process timeline

I thinks it's region depended. In CEST BCG starts recruiting the top students have first interview early September. Bain and McKinsey are a bit later and recruit mainly in October.
MBB recruiting seasons? Non-target needs advice! (Originally Posted: 08/28/2009)
Hi All,
I am a rising senior in a non-target business school. 3.87 overall gpa, 4.0 major, and experience in mostly accounting and PWM.
On the BCG website, it says they will not be visiting our school (no surprise) but it encourages people to fill out their online application anyways.
Do people actually get a chance when they submit an application online without networking with recruiters? What time of the year do they do on campus recruiting for full time jobs upon graduation?
If I really want to get into consulting, with my qualifications, what should I do to maximize my chances?
Thanks! Any input would be appreciated!

Get mega awesome ECs and internships (outside of PWM and accounting)!
From non-core schools you need to have a very strong gpa, and you've got one, which helps. Someone does look at the apps submitted through the website, but unless you have something really extraordinary on your resume (e.g. Olympic athlete, incredible personal story, Rhodes Scholar....I'm exaggerating only a little), it will be hard to stand out without doing some networking. From a non-core school, that means reaching out to alums or others at BCG and other firms you're targeting. Ideally you want someone who is senior or well-respected in the organization to forward your resume to the right person with the right message. Full-time recruiting from MBA programs starts very early, like October, so it's definitely time to get going.

thanks for all the advices. i posted my resume up for review in "Resume Review section" of the forums. please check it out and see my qualifications in detail.
Welcoming all constructive feedback and inputs, thanks!
I SA'd at a good BB group, have a full time offer, around the same GPA as you, but I also go to a non-target. I've been told by a few people that despite this, it will still be very difficult for me to land a MBB interview this year. Especially at Bain and BCG since my school essentially has no alumnus at those firms...
Not to discourage you, but find out from your career services if your school has alumni who are or used to be at consulting firms. You should also be willing to travel to the closest offices to meet for coffee if you do get a contact (this may be harder since consultants travel more, but I had to make multiple trips to NY and Chi when trying to get SA interviews last winter).
Hey clb75, thanks for your input. And good job at ur SA and full time offer.

Would you review this resume to see how I can maximize my candidacy? Thanks
MBB timeline of UG recruitment - trying to compete (Originally Posted: 11/14/2010)
Hi everyone,
My firm is competing with MBB for a particular candidate (finishing college), but as a boutique, we make our decisions on a "need" basis rather through a formal recruitment cycle.
What is the deadline for college seniors to accept offers from MBB? I want to know just how much time we have to compete.
Would greatly appreciate this.
In US I've seen it range from late Fall to a more typical January/February for internships.
I've heard of certain regions pushing it up now to compete with IB internship recruiting though.
I suppose this is a good chance for disgruntled MBBers to stick it to their firms by releasing that info.
Haha, I didn't view it that way, but it's a good angle. I don't want to raise the candidate's hopes but I want to know how much time we have to identify the "need".
My deadline for MBB was end of November. But couldn't you just ask the candidate?
Hey Platform, thanks. I will ask the candidate, but I don't want to raise the person's hopes for nothing. End of November is quite early, which isn't going to make it easy. When did you do your interviews?
I'm seeing that offers are coming out in Oct and November but the financial aspects are still being doled out/mulled over. Any truth to this?
sell weekends have started for mbb; at the one i was at, ~90% of offerees had already accepted, if that helps
I know that West Coast offices for my particular MBB finished interviewing early Nov. Sell weekends for all offices are this weekend, and deadlines are end of month. I don't think this is early because MBB generally follows finance timelines (or lag slightly behind) and finance timelines are all about done. I also know that some universities have rigid dates that "protect" their students and give them enough time to choose. My school is not one of them, but friends at Ivies all noted end of November dates.
Platform, PEsomeday,
I really appreciate the replies. I think I'm going to have to lean on my manager hard to accelerate this process, or we'll lose this candidate.
Are the offers heavy on the financial side?
The deadline to accept my MBB offer is December 1st. They are probably pushing him/her to sign asap. The sell weekend isn't going to help your cause either.
why would they take your firm?
Hi maniacfromspace, I appreciate your sympathy. I am sure sell weekend is compelling, though now I'm seeing that my main enemy is time/my manager's mindset. If you wouldn't mind, what sort of numbers (in comp) would we have to compete with?
nycIBD, I myself wondered that, and asked. Essentially, our niche really hits the spot in terms of the candidate's intellectual interests, and at least for this candidate, that apparently matters most. As you can imagine, when the fit is this strong, I really find the situation warrants an extraordinary effort on our part.
i believe mck is offering 70 base, 10 sign on. same as the street to compete.
Give him the money. Even if it doesn't matter now it will matter soon.
Here you go :)

ivoteforthatguy, maniacfromspace,
Definitely grateful for the support. I'm interviewing another candidate today and we'll have enough candidates for a direct H2H comparison. I'll sell my favorite one as "talent we should invest in" and try to give a good enough deal. We won't be able to match the base salary (though hopefully we'll get close), but the bonus should be comparable and we can give a perk or two that the others won't (like a new car).
I should say that the reason I'm so vested in this is that essentially, I've been tasked with finding a successor for my role (I'm either reaching Director-level or leaving, and my manager knows that).
I could just say "well, it'll be anyone, especially if I leave, so who cares" but I really want it to be someone talented, passionate, driven, and who will hopefully outdo my performance and truly contribute to the firm, become a star.
Your efforts are admirable. You're actually strengthening bridges rather than burning them. It'll come handy if you ever want to return to the same firm (that is if you decide to leave)
Good luck!
^^^
+1 to that. And, as a guy who is currently seriously considering jumping ship from his current job because of $$$ incentives from competitors, I can assure you that at the junior level, %-variations in compensations make a HUGE difference. Good luck with your recruiting work.
To everyone who followed this saga,
Thanks for your support. In the end, I spoke to the candidate again, learned of their offer deadline, and after having it reiterated to me that the candidate was more interested in my firm, I made a last push with my manager.
He is not interested. He has his reasons.
That said, I'm going to force him to pass the candidate's CV onto our counterparts in one of our bigger offices, where there might be room to maneouvre. It is unfortunate for us to pass up this talent when the fit is so strong (our niche is the candidate's dream job/sector).
In the meantime, I've found other candidates who have their strong points... I'm doing everything I possibly can to ensure a proper handover.

MBB FT Recruiting (Originally Posted: 03/22/2012)
Is there a general timeline for FT MBB recruiting?
When do they make offers to interns and start considering full-time applications?
Is there a "best" time to submit an application assuming you aren't using OCR?
November - Info Sessions January - Resume Drop/ 1st rounds February - 1st rounds/Decision rounds
This is for the US, I don't know about other regions
Sounds right.
And if you're concerned about your school, most companies already have dates up on their websites.
Offers to interns are around late February.
Full time applications are due in the fall, I think this year was in October.
If you aren't using OCR then it probably isn't significant. Honestly the chances are so incredibly low of getting it without OCR that if you are impressive enough to warrant a look it won't matter when you apply.
If you're applying through a reference (e.g. if someone in one of the offices is handing your resume/cover letter to the recruiter personally), the best time is right before (~1 month before) the regular FT application rush.
If you're applying online, then Powerpoint Jockey will probably be right unfortunately. But just apply during the regular FT season in that case.
Thanks. This post was mostly a fact finding mission.
This was for UG recruitment also, not sure if that changes anything.
