What is the best way to ask a MBB partner for a referral? Have spoken to the partner once and emailed a few times. The partner has connected me to recruiters a few times and ends emails along the lines of "let me know if I can help".

Just drop them a note that you will be submitting your candidacy (tune up the language) to their firm come recruitment season and thank them again for all their help leading up to the recruiting process (and that you're excited to see where it goes). Generally partners are only receptive to be asked to do things if the person doing the asking has control of a checkbook. He'll get the hint. He's already connected you to recruiters so the recruiters know that you, as a recruiting candidate, are an extension of that partner.
